This past weekend, the MontyVerse attended one of the most exciting events of the year in the form of TerrifiCon, one of, if not the, biggest and most fun comic cons in Connecticut, taking place at the incredible Mohegan Sun. As massive nerds and lifelong con-goers, we’re always rousing for a fun time amongst fellow fandom nerds. TerrifiCon did not disappoint on any front. We wanted to take the opportunity to do a Terrificon recap and let you all know what we thought!

While we already planned to attend this year, the MontyVerse was fortunate enough to gain access to the event as press. We arrived at the con Friday afternoon shortly after it opened. Instantly, it was clear what made this event so special and engaging for fans of all walks.
Firstly, Mohegan Sun acted as a fantastic venue for the event. Mohegan Sun, a casino resort with countless activities, dining, and shopping in itself, provided a spacious, comfortable space to roam around the con. The dealers room was easy to navigate. The meet-and-greet stations for guests allowed room to breathe as you waited in line. The entire venue, hotel, restaurants, and convention space alike, were all connected with indoor walkways. While this sounds stifling, this was perfect to avoid the unforgiving summer heat the entire weekend.

Next, the dealers room had an impressive variety of vendors and booths! One of the most important factors of any con rests largely on the quality of the vendors. We were mightily impressed! Unsurprisingly, the con had a multitude of comic book vendors who had every comic under the sun, even Barbie! We even saw a rare 10-graded Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic! As a diehard Dick Grayson fan, Monty purchased a highly graded Teen Titans comic. The con also featured vendors with some really cool fandom merchandise, such as Loungefly bags, vintage toys, posters, and much more. We came across a Squirtle Squad pin that particularly tickled Nicki’s fancy.

The con also featured a wide array of guests! The con had absolutely no shortage of comic creators, as to be expected, but also has a multitude of actors from film, television, cartoons, anime, and probably even other mediums. Monty took the opportunity to meet the insanely talented Josh Segarra, having quite a phenomenal couple of years with She-Hulk and Scream VI. We also took joy in encountering Sean Gunn at various points throughout the weekend. While many of the guests were under the restrictions of the ongoing Actors and Writers strikes, we were fortunate to still have the opportunity to meet them. Also, as said above, the con also skillfully laid out their meet-and-greet area. Many guests had insanely long lines, but they never seemed to obstruct walking traffic too much.

Lastly, we should address the elephant in the room, or should we say sky bison? The picture replica of Appa, created by John Marks, was quite a spectacle to behold. In partnership with Make-A-Wish Foundation, con-goers could pose alongside our favorite furry friend (don’t tell Momo!) for a cool pic. After all, no pic was more suitable for this TerrifiCon recap than ours. They also provided a plethora of prop weapons and bended elements to pose with! This marked one of the coolest aspects of the con, and all towards a great cause to boot! Appa goes on the road, so give John a follow to see where they’re going next!

The next TerrifiCon will be taking place August 16-18, 2024. You can bet your ass we’ll return! We had a, dare I say, terrific time and want to give props to all the staff responsible for putting it together, least of all its creator, the King of the Nerds himself, Mitch Hallock. Mitch, we sadly didn’t get the opportunity to speak at the con, but thank you so much for putting on such a fantastic show year after year!
Thanks so much for reading our TerrifiCon recap! Stay tuned to the MontyVerse YouTube channel for our upcoming vlog of the con!
