New Wonder Man plot details shed some light on the MCU’s take on Simon Williams.
Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is set to star as the titular hero but not much more has been revealed about the character outside of that information. We assume the series is set to focus on Simon’s relationship with his brother when it was revealed that Demetrius Grosse would be playing the Eric Williams aka The Grim Reaper.
Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we now have a brief synopsis for the series, which gives us an idea of the direction they are taking the hero: “The series gives a superhero’s perspective on the entertainment industry, centering on a Hollywood stuntman and actor trying to make it big in the movies.”
This would be an interesting new path for the character with making him a stuntman being a slight deviation from the comics that could bring a lot of story potential to the series. I am sure the addition of super powers will help bolster Simon’s struggling career and make for a very fun meta series.

The cast for the series is beginning to come together as it was revealed that Ben Kingsley would be reprising his role as Trevor Slattery (Iron Man 3’s faux Mandarin) and The Rock’s Ed Harris has signed in a mysterious role. The series is even rumored to feature appearances from the likes of Courtney Cox, Bob Odenkirk, and Josh Gad.
Wonder Man is being overseen by Avengers: Kang Dynasty director Destin Daniel Cretton, who created the series with head writer Andrew Guest. Cretton is notable for directing the successful Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings while Guest has written or produced episodes of iconic series such as 30 Rock, Community, Suburgatory, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine while serving as a producer on Hawkeye.
Wonder Man was first introduced all the way back in 1964’s Avengers #9 as an antagonist to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes who was being manipulated by Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil. He would eventually turn against the villains, aiding the Avengers, which ended up costing him his life. He was later revealed to be alive and became a long serving member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes while also attempting to be a Hollywood megastar.
