Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has finally hit theaters. While this film is being teased as the final adventure for the Guardians of the Galaxy, the two post credit scenes tease the future for multiple characters while introducing some new ones!
A New Team of Guardians
The ending of the film sees Rocket Raccoon taking over leadership of the Guardians from Peter Quill, who decides to take some time away and reconnect with his grandfather. It doesn’t take long for us to meet the new team as the first post credit scenes shows us Rocket talking to his team that consists of Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, and Phylla Vell, a girl rescued from the High Evolutionary during the climax.

Phylla Vell is a very powerful character from Marvel Comics who is the daughter of Mar Vell aka the original Captain Marvel and the Sister of Genis Vell, who was another Captain Marvel. While Phylla has taken on the mantle of Captain Marvel herself, she is most well known as Quasar.

The group discusses their favorite musical artists, showing that Rocket has passed on the appreciation of music Peter gave him to his new team. The group tells Rocket to pick the song for their mission and he chooses a familiar tune: Radbone’s “Come and Get Your Love”, a song that opens the first film.

The team prepares to go to work as Rocket wakes up Groot, who is revealed to be the structure that he was resting on. Groot, now massive, resembles the form of “King Groot” that he had in his first comic book appearances. I
guess we are to assume that this Groot is the final evolution of the character that we have been watching grow from a splinter in Guardians 1.

The team charges toward the camera, soundtrack blaring ending the scene on a close-up of Rocket who is seems to finally be at peace. Teasing a new group to continue the adventures of the guardians in the MCU moving forward if they decide to revisit them…
A Legendary Return
The end credits scene takes us back to Peter Quill and his grandfather Jason as the two eat breakfast and talk about neighborhood gossip. A very normal and mundane existence for the former intergalactic outlaw. However the screen cuts to white and we get the message “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return”.

A surprising promise that could have a few different meanings. In the comics the tilte of Star-Lord is passed down so this could mean that Star-Lord will return but it will be a new character instead of Peter Quill. However, to have that statement follow a scene that features Peter means we will most likely see Pratt return.
Star-Lord does branch out and have solo adventures in the comics so this is nothing new but will it be in a solo film, a Disney+ series or is it simply teasing his return for Avengers Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
