The Paper is an enjoyable sitcom that stays true to the spirit of its predecessor without copying it.
It feels reminiscent of the early seasons of The Office. Something special is there, they just have to find their footing first.
Domhnall Gleeson does a lot of the heavy lifting as Ned Sampson, a Nepo baby who earnestly believes in the power of journalism. He gives the character an innate likeability while truly believing in his cause.
My main issue is that some of the side characters seem half baked and come across as unlikable but it seems to be part of the plan. Also, the show is very polished, lacking a lot of the real world feel of what came before.
A really fun show overall that is a nice little escape. Excited to see how it evolves from here.
